田植え前の田んぼに水がはいり、土が泥状になった時期に飛来し、それで子育てのための巣をつくる燕。弥生とともにはじまった水稲と燕の飛来、どっちが先かの歴史もとても興味深いのである。
A series of works created specifically for the solo exhibition "Nawohi," held in July 2026.
"Swallow"
Swallows arrive just as water fills the paddies before rice planting—turning the soil into mud—and use that mud to build nests for raising their young. The history of wet-rice cultivation and the arrival of swallows both began in the Yayoi period; the question of which came first is a truly fascinating one.
